The Dark Knight Rises botches an early IMAX screening
Are you jealous you weren’t one of the select press members chosen to catch a screening of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES last night? Well, maybe that jealousy will subside a little bit when you learn that half way through the IMAX screening, there was a problem with the chip that syncs the sound and video. It was so bad that audience members complained and they had to stop the show. The official press release is below:
“As a new reel began, the dialogue between Christian Bale and Michael Caine was clearly out of sync – with a full 5- to 10-second lip-flap after lines were spoken. After a few minutes the crowd shouted for a projectionist. The movie was stopped and the lights went up. A 40-year employee of IMAX said that this has never ever happened to him before. After 20 minutes the man came out again and said the sync computer had failed and could not be rebooted.”
It’s sad that this happened to such an important film, but anyone that has seen more than 5 movies in the theater has had something like this happen to them before. I won’t start preaching about how bad movie theaters have become lately, but let’s just say this news doesn’t surprise me. If I were writing my worst case scenario to see THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, it would probably look something like this. All is not lost for the moviegoers as they were invited back to the theater at 8:00 am to finish the movie. So at least they get to find out what happens, a full two weeks before everyone else.
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Juno Temple. This is the third and final Batman film for director Christopher Nolan and it finally opens in theaters on July 20th, 2012. (Deadline)
