Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Guy Pearce star in the new Lawless trailer
If the Weinsteins get their way, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is going to make Tom Hardy a household name (for those that don’t know who he is already) and people will be so anxious to see more of him that they’ll pack the theaters to see Tom Hardy a month later in LAWLESS. I’m not sure the gimmick will work, but the best way to get people excited for the film is to focus on the quality of the film and not so much on Tom Hardy. Although to be fair, early reviews from the festival circuit say that Tom Hardy steals the show (which is becoming normal with his movies). To get or keep people excited for Lawless and Tom Hardy, they’ve released another trailer, which is barely even long enough to tell you who stars in it. This trailer is only a minute long, which seems odd that the second trailer is shorter than the first, but I assume the Weinsteins know what they’re doing.
The John Hillcoat directed film follows three bootlegging brothers during the days of prohibition and how they tried to avoid trouble with the law and probably other competition. Hillcoat directed THE ROAD, which I felt bordered on greatness at times, but overall was a bit of a letdown. I’m anxious to see what he does with this all star cast and with a story involving romance, action and drama. I like what I see so far, but I question whether it will be enough to get attention come awards season.
LAWLESS stars Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Guy Pearce, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Jason Clarke, Dane DeHaan and Noah Taylor. The film opens in theaters everywhere on August 29, 2012, which should be just in time for everyone to get their Tom Hardy fix after seeing THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.
