Henry Cavill looks concerned as Superman on the teaser poster for Man of Steel

Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill had the crowd at Comic-Con pretty excited during their MAN OF STEEL panel.  Aside from showing some very early footage, they made a few announcements, including that the first trailer for the film will be in front of next weekend’s much anticipated THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.  Not that you really needed any more reason to go see the film, but now you get an extra bonus to be able to pass judgement on Snyder’s Superman film before you watch what promises to be one of the best films of the year.  They also debuted the teaser poster below, which doesn’t do much for me, but shows off the new logo and costume a bit.  Henry Cavill definitely has the look, but it remains to be seen if he can pull it off.

While speaking to the crowd, Zack Snyder tried to describe the film by being “a mashing of stories and ideas,” rather than being based on pre-existing material, and that his ultimate aim was “to bring the modern Superman into the world. It’s for you guys who’ve been through thick and thin and for everyone else out there. I hope to bring a version that everyone can identify with… The big challenge was if you can make people feel, what would you do if you were Superman.”  That kind of sound like what Bryan Singer tried to do with SUPERMAN RETURNS and fans didn’t react very kindly to his film, although I liked it.

MAN OF STEEL is set to star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Russell Crowe, Ayelet Zurer, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Antje Traue, Christopher Meloni and Laurence Fishburne. Zack Snyder is handling directing duties on the reboot with a close eye from producer Christopher Nolan.  MAN OF STEEL hits theaters on June 14th, 2013.
