Emmy Rossum in first look at young adult adaptation Beautiful Creatures
It looks certain that 2013 will be the year of young adult novel adaptations. Although there won’t be any more installments in the TWILIGHT saga, we will see THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS: CITY OF BONES, THE HOST and now BEAUTIFUL CREATURES. BEAUTIFUL CREATURES is a supernatural drama that follows a teenager named Lena and a new girl in town who unearth secrets about their relatives. Today we’re getting a first look at the character Ridley (played by Emmy Rossum THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW) who is the cousin of the main character Lena (Alice Englert). Ridley is sent by Lena’s mother, Mrs. Lincoln (Emma Thompson), to try and convince her daughter to become an evil sorceress before her sixteenth birthday, when she must decide whether to be good or bad. I have to admit that I’m a little lost on the entire plot of the film, but I’m sure more will be revealed after a trailer or two.
Based on the novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES will be directed by Richard LaGravenese and will star: Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Jeremy Irons, Thomas Mann, Viola Davis, Kyle Gallner, Zoey Deutch and Alice Englert. It’s set to open in theaters on February 13th, 2013. (EW)
