Saoirse Ronan set to play Mary Queen of Scots

Saoirse Ronan

Saoirse Ronan is one of those young actresses that pick such fantastic and varied roles we’ll probably be seeing her onscreen for many years to come. With juicy roles in ATONEMENT, THE LOVELY BONES, HANNA and THE WAY BACK under her belt and THE HOST and HOW I LIVE on the horizon, it’s not surprising Saoirse Ronan has chosen another role that will do most likely do wonders for her resume. That role is MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS from writer Michael Hirst.

MARY QUEEN OF SCOTS had quite a colorful history considering she only lived to the young age of 45. Saoirse Ronan will play the title character who was crowned queen at the age of one. When she became of appropriate age, she was the queen consort to France then married her first cousin who was eventually murdered. Then she got together with the man accused of killing her husband and ended up being put in prison in Loch Leven Castle after an uprising. Oh, and she also tried to kill Queen Elizabeth which she was eventually executed for. Quite a rough life poor Mary Queen of Scots had. No word on which element will be focused on in the film, but I’ve no doubt Saoirse Ronan will knock it out of the part. No release date has been set just yet, but production is set to start in 2013.
