Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa and Christian Slater star in the Bullet To The Head trailer
Not to be outdone by his lifelong rival and EXPENDABLES co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger (who debuted the first trailer for THE LAST STAND today), Sylvester Stallone stars in the first trailer for his delayed BULLET TO THE HEAD. They really bring it on themselves, but it’s not really fair to compare the two, but there’s a steep drop-off in quality from one film to the next. Arnold’s looks like a decent, straight-up action film while the first time I watched Sylvester Stallone in this, I though maybe he was making fun of himself. Then I watched it again and realized the film actually takes itself seriously, which doesn’t bode well for anyone.
The film is about a hitman (Sylvester Stallone) that teams up with an Asian cop (Sung Kang) to track down the killers of his partner. It has the basic premise of an action flick, one we’ve seen many times before, but something about it just doesn’t feel right. Maybe it was the horrible dialogue from Sylvester Stallone or the predictable jokes, but it’s obvious this film has some problems. The film is directed by Walter Hill, who directed many famous films from the 80’s, including 48 HOURS, RED HEAT and JOHNNY HANDSOME. I assume Sylvester Stallone was hoping Hill could capture some of the 80’s action movie charm, but judging by the first trailer, I don’t think he found it.
With all of that negativity out of the way, this does look like a film I’d be willing to catch late on a weeknight on Netflix when I can’t get to sleep. I’m not sure that’s something they’ll use in their marketing campaigns, but it might be the best they can do. BULLET TO THE HEAD stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Momoa, Christian Slater, Sung Kang, Sarah Shahi, Jon Seda and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. Bullet hits theaters on February 1st.
