Chris Evans may star opposite Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots or Felicity Jones in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones

A lot of Marvel news has been thrown about the last couple of months and it looks like CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER is still casting some big parts so shooting can start on time. Chris Evans will be returning as Captain America/Steve Rogers, but of course he needs a leading lady to share the screen with. Today we learn that the female lead is still up for grabs and the three ladies in the running are Anna Kendrick (UP IN THE AIR, TWILIGHT), Imogen Poots (FRIGHT NIGHT) and Felicity Jones (LIKE CRAZY). You may recall that Felicity Jones was also in the running to play opposite Chris Pines in JACK RYAN, but she lost that role to Keira Knightley. Maybe she’ll have better luck with CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, but I suspect Anna Kendrick will probably get first shot just because she’s a bigger name. Although to be fair you don’t really need a big name in this role so it could be anyone’s game. There’s no word yet on who exactly the female role in the film will be, but right now it’s speculated that the character may be Sharon Carter who was the niece of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER will be directed by Anthony Russo and will star: Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson. It opens in theaters on April 4th, 2014. (NY Post)
