Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire are teaming up to produce a movie about animal trafficking
The title would be much cooler if it read; “Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire are teaming up to star in a movie about animal trafficking”, but for now, we’ll have to settle for them producing a movie together. The trio of actors are all pooling their finances together to produce a “TRAFFIC-style” film about poaching and illegal animal smuggling. Unfortunately, because this is just in the idea phase at the moment, we don’t have any information on the details and it’s unclear whether Tom Hardy, Leonardo DiCaprio or Tobey Maguire would take starring roles in the film or if they’ll just stay on as producers. We also don’t know what, specifically, the film will cover since the world of animal trafficking can range from anything from butterflies to zebras.
Tom Hardy has often been outspoken about his love for dogs (pictured above with his recently departed dog, Max) and Leonardo DiCaprio has been one of PETA’s biggest supporters, so this seems to align with their personal interests. Leo and Tobey Maguire have been best friends for a long time and Leo worked with Tom Hardy on INCEPTION, so there’s your connection if you were looking for one. Personally, I’m not a political person by any means, but the only “issue” I care about is animal rights, so I’d love to see a film like this get made if for no other reason than to bring some of the more harrowing aspects of animal cruelty. What would make this better is if Tom Hard, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire all take starring roles and get a director (they want it to be like TRAFFIC, so why not Steven Soderbergh?) that can handle the subject matter and talent. And also, at least try to give it an uplifting message since animal cruelty is one of the hardest things to watch on the big screen. (THR)
