Guillermo del Toro will go ahead and release Pacific Rim in 3D

Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim

One of the big films to look forward to next summer is the blockbuster from director Guillermo del Toro called PACIFIC RIM. The movie will practically be a hit because it is a film about fights between human-operated robots and monsters who have come from the Pacific. So naturally, the studio wants to make the most money possible from this adventure and, though Guillermo del Toro wanted none of it, will be releasing the film in 3D. It’s a bummer that Guillermo del Toro has to give up part of his creative license to release his film, but there’s really not a lot that can be fought on this front. With a blockbuster like this with a ton of special effects, the budget must have been pretty steep so I suppose the studio has a right to step in and make some of these major decisions. Either way, I’m sure audiences will get an option to see the film in either 2D or 3D so for those lovers of the third dimension should be excited.

Directed by Guillermo del Toro, PACIFIC RIM takes place during an invasion where giant robots manned by humans have to protect the planet. PACIFIC RIM stars: Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman. PACIFIC RIM will hit theaters on July 12, 2013. (Variety)
