Tom Hardy is being eyed for the lead in Animal Rescue

Tom Hardy and his dog Max

Now that Bane is officially behind him, it’s time for Tom Hardy to continue moving towards that coveted A-list status.  It’s amazing he hasn’t been able to find more box office success outside of the Batman franchise since he’s one of the most talented actors working today.  But the young actor has a lot of movies in the works, including the Mad Max sequel, THE LONG RED ROAD, the recently announced EVEREST for director Doug Liman, possibly WITHOUT REMORSE and the long gestating Al Capone film.  He’s also working on producing an anti-poaching movie with pal Leonardo DiCaprio, which makes his possible involvement with ANIMAL RESCUE  more likely.

ANIMAL RESCUE is based on the short story by SHUTTER ISLAND and GONE BABY GONE screenwriter Dennis Lehane.  The film will follow the story of a Boston bartender that rescues and adopts a puppy he finds in a dumpster and then has to deal with the dog’s formerly abusive owner.  At the same time, the bartender is in the middle of a conspiracy in his mob controlled bar.  The film was originally going to be directed by Neil Burger, but it looks like BULLHEAD director Michael Roskam will take over directing duties.  It sounds like an interesting idea and frankly, any movie that supports animal rights or shows a dog abuser getting a serious beatdown is alright in my book.  Tom Hardy has a lot on his plate, but given the simplicity of ANIMAL RESCUE, I’d imagine he could film it in a rather short time frame.
