The top ten movies to look forward to in 2013

5. OBLIVION/ALL YOU NEED IS KILL – I combined these because they’re two sci-fi movies featuring Tom Cruise. I’ll watch Tom Cruise in anything, but I’m excited to see him in an original science fiction story from two talented directors.

The Place Beyond The Pines

4. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES – Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper in the same movie? Sign me up. This promises to be an epic drama spanning generations with special insight into the father-son relationship. The story sounds great and since it features two of the best young actors working today, I’m anxious to catch this one.

Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan in The Great Gatsby

3. THE WOLF OF WALL STREET/THE GREAT GATSBYThe Leonardo DiCaprio duo is close to the top of the list, mainly because he’s reteaming with two directors he’s had a lot of success with in the past. Leonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorsese are as close to a sure thing as you’re going to find in Hollywood and this one feels like another Oscar contender. I’m also anxious to see Jonah Hill in different type of role. AUSTRALIA left a bad taste in my mouth, but I have faith that Baz Luhrmann will redeem himself with an updated telling of THE GREAT GATSBY. The trailers look fun and I’m sure we’ll get another top notch performance from Leonardo DiCaprio.

2. TO THE WONDER – I loved THE TREE OF LIFE and I think TO THE WONDER is going to be more of the same, but focused on love and loss rather than the meaning of life. Early reviews have been mixed, but I’m excited to see what Malick has with this one.

Man of Steel/Henry Cavill

1. MAN OF STEEL – Is this going to be the Superman movie we’ve all been waiting for? I don’t know, but I do know that the full length trailer had me excited. I have reservations about Zack Snyder at the helm, but my hope for a great Superman movie is far too great to be pessimistic about MAN OF STEEL.

Honorable mentions – 2 GUNS, PACIFIC RIM, THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, THE HANGOVER PART 3, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR, R.I.P.D.
