Andrew Garfield will face off against Paul Giamatti as Rhino in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

With all the talk centering on Jamie Foxx as Electro, I kind of assumed that THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 would avoid the common Superhero misstep of casting too many villains, ala SPIDER-MAN 3, BATMAN FOREVER, etc. But today we have word that the great Paul Giamatti is in talks to play Rhino in Marc Webb’s sequel and it remains to be seen if he’ll have a huge part or if he’s just going to show up at the end and set up THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. In the comics, Rhino does have a history with Electro, so there’s several ways they could take the story. But with someone like Giamatti in the role, I’m guessing Rhino will be more than just a punching bag for Spider-Man.
In other, but related news, British actress Felicity Jones (LIKE CRAZY) is also up for a role, but it’s unclear who she’ll be playing since Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy are both taken. Directed by Marc Webb, THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 will star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley. The sequel will be swinging into theaters on May 2, 2014. (THR)
