It pains me to say this, but the writing is on the wall when it comes to THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES. A this point, the film has little to no chance of being a box office hit and although Focus Features seemed eager to take on the film, their choice of release dates and marketing strategies leave a lot to be desired. Although it’s true that the film has some serious star power behind it with Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, it’s just not the type of movie that’s going to bring people into the theaters in the late Spring, early Summer time frame. I can’t help but think that it would do much, much better as an Oscar-bait movie, with a release date late in the Fall. And you can tell from this latest poster that Focus is hoping their three main stars are enough to entice people, but it will be hard to sell a thought-provoking, intense drama in the midst of all the mindless comedies and action films.
