Jennifer Lawrence and the possible upsets in the 2013 Oscar predictions for Best Acting

Despite exceptional performances from Denzel Washington, Joaquin Phoenix and Bradley Cooper, with Daniel Day-Lewis in the category, Best Actor in a Leading Role appears to be a foregone conclusion. The race for Best Actress on the other hand, is a very finicky one indeed. Yes, there is a frontrunner. But Jennifer Lawrence for SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK should definitely be on spoiler alert as a few of the other contenders have picked up their own awards respectively. Naomi Watts is beginning to pick up a little steam with her harrowing performance in THE IMPOSSIBLE, Jessica Chastain is clearly the overwhelming star of ZERO DARK THIRTY, the Oscar’s youngest nominee in Quvenzhane Wallis is the reason BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD is so memorable (technically, the director deserves that praise as well), and the Oscar’s oldest nominee in Emmanuelle Riva might get some respect for the very impressive and moving AMOUR. I believe the last two nominees are ripe with surprise spoiler potential.
