Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges stand tall on the first poster for R.I.P.D.

It’s just an early teaser poster, but it almost feels like Universal is trying to hide the supernatural element to the the comic adaptation R.I.P.D. If I didn’t know any better and saw this hanging in a theater, I’d think this was a LETHAL WEAPON type film, just featuring really big handguns. But we haven’t even gotten a trailer yet, so perhaps it’s too early to judge the marketing for the film. I’m sure Universal has a plan for how they’re going to market the film about dead cops that police other dead people in order to protect the living. I’m curious to see how that’s going to work out on the big screen and as much as I like Ryan Reynolds the person, his involvement has me weary.
R.I.P.D. stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Mary Louise-Parker, Robert Knepper, Mike O’Malley, James Hong and Kevin Bacon. The Robert Schwentke directed film will blast into theaters on July 19th, 2013.
