Liam Hemsworth to star in Arabian Nights

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Liam Hemsworth is probably going to be a name we’ll be hearing a lot of in the coming months and years.  He’s a virtually unknown right now, but everyone is a flutter over his performance in the upcoming THE LAST SONG with Miley Cyrus.  Not content with being the pop superstar’s boy toy, Hemsworth is jumping on the high-concept 3D adventure ARABIAN NIGHTS for director Chuck Russell (THE SCORPION KING).  The film is about a young commander that joins forces with Sinbad and Aladdin to rescue a queen.  Liam’s older brother is Chris Hemsworth who is currently shooting THOR with Kenneth Branagh.

The concept for the movie seems like it’s going to be tricky to pull off.  Any time you combine mythical heroes, it has a tendency to turn out cheesy more often than not.  It’s also interesting that Liam is getting so much attention for THE LAST SONG, considering the previews didn’t do much for me.

Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore to star in the remake of the French film L.O.L.

For those of us that were pre-teens in the early 90’s, it’s really tough to see Demi Moore as anything but a sexy, lead actress.  So this transition she’s making as the older mother figure is hard for me to grasp.  Not only that, but she’s no longer a leading lady and now she’s playing second fiddle to Miley Cyrus.

The duo will star in the remake of the French film L.O.L.: Laughing Out Loud.  The movie tells the story of a 15 year-old girl that’s dumped by her more experienced boyfriend and then sets out to date his best friend.  Moore, of course, will play Miley’s mom, a divorcee struggling to get her life back together.

Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston in The Last Song Trailer

It seems like we just got the trailer for Nicholas Sparks’ DEAR JOHN, now we get a trailer for his THE LAST SONG.  Audiences seem to eat up his mushy love stories, but this one looks like it’s trying too hard.  In this one, a rebellious girl has to come to terms with her parents’ divorce when her mother forces her to live with her father for a summer.  The film stars Miley Cyrus, Greg Kinnear and Kelly Preston.

To be clear, I have nothing against Miley Cyrus.  I think her Disney show and subsequent movies are unwatchable, but that’s not really her fault, they’re just a product of their audience.  But Miley has a unique knack for coming off very whiny every time she speaks, so I’m not sure I’m going to be able to handle her for an entire film.

Watch the trailer here.
