I have mixed emotions regarding Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming 3D adventure THE THREE MUSKETEERS.  On one hand, I’ve always wanted a quality movie of The Three Musketeers.  It’s one of the few books I actually read and I always thought it would make a great movie.  On the other hand, the fact that Anderson is directing it makes me nervous because what the story needs is a faithful telling, not a mashed up hodgepodge of action scenes that don’t make sense.  He’s assembled a decent cast that includes Mads Mikkelsen, Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich, Juno Temple, Orlando Bloom and James Corden.

Lerman is playing D’Artagnan and if they’re going to make D’Artagnan the lead character again, then I’m a little skeptical because I’m not completely sold on Lerman’s ability to carry a film yet.  I don’t mind him, but he doesn’t seem ready to be the main star.  The film opens April 15th, 2011.

Three Musketeers gets a cast that may include Orlando Bloom

Shooting begins in September for THE THREE MUSKETEERS and casting is still in the works.  So far director Paul W.S. Anderson has rounded up a decent cast which includes: Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen.  These three will play the musketeers Porthos, Athos and Aramis respectively and actor Logan Lerman is in the final rounds of negotiation to play the young D’Artagnan.  The villians have also been set: Christoph Waltz will be playing Cardinal Richelieu, Mads Mikkelsen will be Rochefort and Milla Jovovich is Milady de Winter and “an offer is out” to Orlando Bloom to play the Duke of Buckingham.  Anderson will be bring THE THREE MUSKETEERS  to us in 3D and with a more modern feel to it.  I hope Anderson doesn’t go too modern, we really don’t want another A KNIGHT’S TALE on our hands.  I don’t think I could take another joust or battle to Queen’s We Will Rock You.

And yes, I know Bloom isn’t confirmed for this film but I can’t help myself.

Stuart Townsend and Ray Stevenson join Kenneth Branagh’s Thor

Looks like Thor will have some help battling evil as today we get word that Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano have all signed on to star as Thor’s Warriors Three.  You’ll have to excuse my lack of Thor knowledge, but from what I can gather, their kind of like his entourage, except they can fight.  Kenneth Branagh has assembled one heck of a cast with Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

Like several people have pointed out, I still think it’s going to be tough to make THOR work on film and then still ground him in a reality to prepare for The Avengers.  But the cast is great, so if it fails, it won’t be for a lack of talent.
